Allaura Stadel is 15 years old and started her love of art at the age of 2, beginning with the learning of finger painting. Drawing came after that, inspired during the time in which she had to sit quietly at meetings attended with her mom and dad. During this time she would render her own interpretations of coloring book pages and experiment with her own fabrications. In addition, she would color to pass her time, also working to draw her own prototypes. She developed a passion for color, and this love of color and illustrating has shaped and evolved over the years.

Her love of horses, of course, came at about the same time. Mom grew up with them, and to pass on the infatuation, she exposed Allaura to the realm of horses. When at the Fair, Allaura was placed on a horse’s back for the first time, and she was hooked at this first fair-time pony ride.  Continually bugging her parents for a horse, a pony, anything to ride, they set out on a search for a steed suitable for a young child.

We were told about a horse that needed a home to retire to. The ranch we arrived to was Wolf Creek Ranch. Introductions to the owners came first; afterwards, introductions to the horse occurred. We learned that he was called Carlyle Black Coffee and a fine gentleman of a Morgan. Coffee turned out to be Allaura’s first horse. Slowly but surely, he taught Allaura much about what was required to ride. After meeting a dear friend, we then were caught in the holds of the ‘show bug’. We attended shows, winning quite a few ribbons, blue more common as time went by. Inevitably though, Coffee became too old to show, and lived to be 31 years old. Sadly, we began the search for a new horse, and we started showing Morgans right after.

Along the way, Allaura continued to draw. Last year, we attended the first Light Hands Horsemanship clinic, and Allaura was drawing while listening to the clinicians. Debbie saw her drawings and encouraged us to print them on t-shirts and such.
This year, Allaura Stadel will be presenting her first five designs at the Light Hands Horsemanship Clinic, and we would be greatly pleased if you stop by our booth!

A Cowgirl's Promise

www.acowgirlspromise.com

Courage, commitment, passion and dedication define a special attitude, a mental firmness, a quality and strength that is “spirit”, that is cowgirl. We believe there is a promise that lies within each of us to find that spirit and live with passion, whether you are sitting at a desk in the city or driving cattle on the range.

Our unique collection, of handmade bits, sterling silver, turquoise and Navajo jewelry along with conchos, ropes, tools and western home accents offers you that one-of-a-kind feel for your home, yourself or as a gift to a friend. We select items that bring to mind a feeling of freedom, wide open spaces, and the love of the land.

A Cowgirl's Promise is, in short, authentically American.

We are very excited to be adding the Santa Ynez Valley Museum and Carriage House to our line up of Vendors for 2009. They have so graciously provided us with a carriage to display at the 2009 LHH event. Each year the SYVM hosts Vaquero Days. A weekend celebrating the early California Horsemen and Cattle Ranches. Be sure to ask them about this wonderful event held in November each year.

Local Artist and Sculptor Linda Paich Grimm will also be featuring some of her fine art work and bronzes at the SYVM booth. Linda and her husband Jim will be once again hosting the Museum of the Cowboy Tour on Friday so be sure to sign up for it. This tour is a walk in cowboy history...don't miss it.

DeShon Designs

Denise DeShon

Denise does custom western show clothes and chaps.

Email cutwzazz@yahoo.com

Born in Hayward and raised in Castro Valley, California, Denise’s first love was horses followed closely by music.   She spent many years working hard on her horsemanship skills and competed in a variety of  western events along the way.  Her passion for horses and speed led her down the road to the NHSR Finals and some College Rodeos as well. When her daughters came along, there was a need for more horses, and mom was the trainer/coach/chauffeur to more rodeos and cuttings.  She then decided to train horses full time and coach kids for junior, high school and college rodeo.  Music was something to sing to at the barn or in the truck going down the road.  Lots of miles, lots of practice!  No longer training horses she can be found lopin’ circles, wandering down a trail, or working cows as often as she can.

Her artistic ability lies in just about anything she puts her hands to that can turn out ‘western cowgirl chic’.  Currently she is developing her own line called “DeShon Designs”…clothing, belts, chaps, furniture, home décor, jewelry and leather bags.

Evelyn Bish will be joining Denise DeShone. Evelyn is an outstanding seamstress and has a soft spot for all things western.

Evelyn makes pillows, leather book covers, lap top cases, table runners, placemats, tote bags, and an assortment of smaller items with a western flare...
I have seen Evelyn’s and Denise’s work. You LHH ladies are in for a real treat!!

Buffalo Hats - Quality Working Hats - Fine Enough for Dresswear
                   Buffalo Hats by Bear

I’m a traveling hat maker of many years, wandering around the west putting folks into quality custom western hats; I do other styles when called upon. The hat blanks I use are from the same factory where most custom shops purchase their hat blanks, the quality of material is there, rest assured. I size, block, shape and complete your hat for you while you set there watching the process.

In essence ‘we’ build ‘your’ hat. You walk away wearing your hat in less than an hour. This way of having your hat made provides a personal touch not found in shops. Even though I do the labor, you get to be the Supervisor! You have your choice of any color of hat band, as long as it’s one of the five I offer! I braid my own hat bands. Horsehair stampede strings available. A standard fur felt hat is $180; a 100% beaver fur felt hat is $300, plus CA sales tax. Each hat ordered will be made and delivered during the event. It all happens right at Light Hands.
