Eitan Beth-Halachmy who in the past Light Hands Events has closed each day with his knowledge and well earned wisdom will be opening the 2010 Light Hands Event. Eitan will show and discuss the advanced horse and the importance of "lightness" and what can be achieved when less is more. He will demonstrate the importance of cadence, forward motion, self-carriage and harmony. He will also demonstrate exercises to help develop the horse in preparation for upper level maneuvers as well as enhancing the carriage, cadence and forward motion need to successfully achieve a higher level of horsemanship. From his opening session his fellow clinicians will then take you back to the early training of the horse and the steps and preparation needed to achieve the refinement, lightness and subtly of the advanced horse.

Lester Buckley will be covering two topics during his clinics over the weekend. One will be "Applying Dressage Principles in everyday riding for all horses." Second, "Using Ranch Work for keeping the whole horse balanced".  If you saw Lester last year you know how knowledgeable and talented he is. He is very open to sharing his years of experience and the wisdom that has come with it. Lester worked for the King Ranch in Texas and the Parker Ranch in Hawaii. Both places ranching legends. Besides starting colts for these two famed ranches he is certified to teach dressage in Germany. Quite an accomplishment.

The Seven Key Qualities of a Horseman

Rick Lamb, author and host of "The Horse Show" on TV and radio, reveals seven personal qualities humans must possess if they are to have success with horses. A thought-provoking presentation that draws rave reviews from newbies and seasoned horsemen alike.

Horsemen of the Past – Forefathers of a Revolution

Rick Lamb, author and host of "The Horse Show" on TV and radio, offers an introduction to the lives and work of selected horsemen through history who championed the principles of natural horsemanship. Includes Xenophon, Antoine de Pluvinel, John Rarey, Jesse Beery, and Kell Jeffery. Ends with Tom Dorrance, the father of this modern revolution in horsemanship.

On Friday Dr. Robert Miller will be covering "The Light Hands Horsemanship Story & Concepts" During this presentation he will cover why lightness is the exception, not the rule of horsemanship. Why he chose the clinicians he did and what you will share with them during the event. He will also cover the "Revolution in Horsemanship" and how it begun and why.

On Sat he will continue his lectures with two misconceptions, 1. Horses can be excessively desensitized and 2. Imprint Training can cause problems. Dr. Miller will discuss in depth both subjects.

His presentations will also include selected video.

For those of you who have had the privilege of hearing Dr. Miller in the past know that he is one of our industries most popular and sought after speakers. Dr. Miller is in great demand and travels world wide sharing his knowledge, experience and wisdom. His humor is a bonus so be prepared to learn and laugh.

Master Horseman, Jack Brainard will be discussing and demonstrating how to get control of the horses body and why this control is the bases of everything we do with a horse. He will also teach and demonstrate foot falls and cadence. Jack feels you must know how to control the horses body and feet before you can do advanced maneuvers.

Jon Ensign will be sharing his expertise in a different area this year. In the past he has done an excellent job sharing and demonstrating his colt starting techniques. In 2010 Jon will move a bit ahead and show you what happens after you accomplish the first good ride on a horse. He will share with you the 30 day horse and the 90 day horse. These are just a few of the things he will be covering:

  1. Lowering the head for safer bridleling.

  2. Safely mounting from a mounting block and the ground.

  3. Rein management, lateral flexion, bending left and right, hind quarter control, one rein stop.

  4. Vertical flexion, soft feel, suppleing at the poll.

  5. Hand and leg aids.

  6. Seat position and how it affects the horse.

  7. How to back in a straight line, in circles and in serpentines.. and why these things are so important

  8. Using the flag, rope, bridge, car, teeter totter and roping dummy and why it benefits and gentles the horse.

Richard Winters
Colt Starting Demonstration

In these sessions Richard will work with a young un-started horse – taking him through his first saddling, mounting, and riding off. Beginning with ground work, Richard will establish a relationship with this young horse built on trust and respect, rather than intimidation and fear. These early lessons will be the foundation on which the horse/human relationship will be built upon throughout this horse’s entire life. In these demonstrations you’ll see how Light Hands Horsemanship applies even in this equine kindergarten classroom.

LHH horsemanship is very excited as we feel the combination of Richard Winters and Jon Ensign is like a "dream team."  They both represent the best in colt starting and the continued education of the young horse. Jon is covering a new area for LHH and we think that combining these two excellent horsemen is about as good a presentation as you can get.

Join us and we think you will agree.....

** Please note that schedule is subject to change so please check back often.
